Andrea Fradagrada appointed as Country Manager for Italy – Korkia to open new office in Milan
With extensive experience in the renewable energy sector, Andrea will play a key role in advancing Korkia’s strategic initiatives in the Italian market.
Korkia is pleased to announce the appointment of Andrea Fradagrada as Country Manager for Italy. With extensive experience in the renewable energy sector, Andrea will play a key role in advancing Korkia’s strategic initiatives in the Italian market.
“Korkia entered the Italian market in 2023 after partnering with two development teams, FFK and BIWO Renewables to develop 1 GW of solar PV capacity in Italy. We are delighted to welcome Andrea to ensure the smooth progress of our project development and strategy in the region. Andrea’s deep understanding of the Italian renewable energy landscape will further strengthen Korkia’s forward-looking presence in Italy as a part of our global platform,” says Mikko Kantero, EVP of Growth & Development at Korkia.
With over 20 years of experience in renewables, including 18 years in regulated alternative investment instruments, Andrea has a proven track record in navigating the complexities of the energy sector. Before joining Korkia, he served as an advisor in multiple renewable energy development projects across Italy. As the co-founder of an Italian M&A boutique and director of several energy-related entities, Andrea has built strong expertise in investment, asset management, and business development, as well as an extensive professional network. He holds a degree in SME Management from Bocconi University.
“When I founded my M&A boutique six years ago, my goal was to become a local partner for a foreign institutional investor interested in developing the Italian renewables market. After working on several individual projects, the opportunity with Korkia emerged and perfectly aligned with my original objectives. I’m excited to join the global Korkia team and begin developing our portfolio in Italy,” says Andrea Fradagrada.
Expanding our European footprint: Milan office opens
Renewable energy generation in Italy is expected to grow rapidly, accompanied by a rising need for energy storage. The Italian government aims to connect 80 GW of renewable capacity to the grid by 2030, of which approximately 30 GW is already operational. To meet this target, an additional 50 GW must be installed within the next five years, along with 50 gigawatt-hours of new utility-scale storage capacity. These ambitious goals make Italy one of Europe’s most dynamic markets for renewable energy investment.
With the opening of the Milan office, Korkia continues to expand its team in Europe to support future growth and is expecting to soon announce the first open position in Italy.
Korkia’s solar and BESS projects in Italy reach ready-to-build amidst strong demand
Thanks to its strategic Mediterranean location and excellent solar radiation, Italy offers exceptional conditions for solar energy generation. “Italy also has the highest electricity prices in Europe, significantly above those in Spain and France,” notes Andrea, underscoring the strong economic case for renewable investments in the region.
Korkia’s Italian project portfolio reached a major milestone in spring 2025 when three solar power plant projects and one Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) project achieved ready-to-build (RTB) status, signaling steady progress.
