Niko Korpela joins Korkia as Investment Manager

Korkia’s Nordic team is strengthening as Niko Korpela joins the company as Investment Manager in September. Niko will contribute to evaluating, developing and advancing investment opportunities across energy transition infrastructure projects in the Nordics.

Having worked at the intersection of project development and PPA origination, Niko brings a well-rounded perspective on renewable energy investments. He has built his expertise through his studies in Sustainable Energy Systems and Markets at Aalto University, and during the past four years at international renewable energy producer Neoen, where he worked in both project development and commercial roles. During this time, he gained strong expertise in renewable energy projects, commercial negotiations and project development.

Niko’s combination of commercial, development and project management experience will support Korkia’s continued growth and investment activities across the Nordic market.

Q1: What are your strengths in your new role as Investment Manager?

I possess quite a useful combination of hard and soft skills that stem from my previous work experience. As a former project manager, I have learned to handle multiple workstreams simultaneously and to communicate efficiently with various stakeholders. On the other hand, my experience from commercial negotiations and origination has taught me to focus and drill down on key parameters while grasping the full picture of larger entireties looking beyond the matter at hand.

Q2: What kind of energy do you bring to the team and the work community? 

I consider myself a team player rather than a lone ranger, which in the context of teamwork materializes as my commitment to always do my part to the best of my ability while offering support to others in whatever they might need me for. The energy I bring to a work community can be best obtained by my coworkers as an easygoing personality that has the ability to strike a meaningful conversation or crack jokes with essentially anybody.

Q3: Reveal something surprising about yourself that many people do not know.

While I may not fit the stereotype that many people have in mind, I’m quite passionate about birdwatching. This hobby allows me to connect with the surrounding nature and environment wherever I am and encourages me to notice details that are often filtered out by our busy minds. It also adds a whole new dimension to my other outdoor interests, such as running, hiking, and sailing.
