Life at Korkia – Insights from our newest colleagues

At Korkia, growth is powered by people. Over the past year, we’ve welcomed new colleagues across our Investment, Legal, Finance, Marketing, and Fundraising teams – each bringing fresh perspectives and expertise to our mission of accelerating the renewable energy transition.

We sat down with some of our newest team members, Peter Bolton, Maija Alén, Alvar Tapio, Ville Säteri, and Sanna-Maaria Savikko, to hear what inspired them to join Korkia, their first impressions, and how they would describe life at Korkia today.

Their reflections highlight the entrepreneurial mindset, collaborative spirit, and genuine care for people that define our culture.

What inspired you to join Korkia?

Peter Bolton, Vice President, Portfolio Investments: “First and foremost, the people. Having met them and enjoyed how they interacted, they felt like a team I wanted to be part of. Second, it was clear to me that the business was in a transitional phase – about to see huge volume of maturing projects after years laying the foundations. As an investor, it felt exciting to transition towards an earlier stage in the development cycle.”

Ville Säteri, Legal Counsel: “I wanted to apply my legal background in a setting where decisions have visible impact beyond the office walls. Korkia stood out not only as a leader in renewable energy development but also as a company operating across multiple markets. Its co-development model with local partners promised the kind of international, hands-on work I was looking for, where I could contribute directly to the energy transition.”

Maija Alén, Head of Marketing & Communications: “I was inspired by Korkia’s clear mission, accelerating the renewable energy transition through responsible investment, and drawn to the opportunity to shape how Korkia tells its story globally. Communicating the value of renewable investments is both a creative and a meaningful challenge.”

How did you first hear about Korkia, and what stood out to you during the recruitment process?

Peter: “I first encountered Korkia when working for a potential buyer of projects from one of Korkia’s development companies. Later, a mutual friend of a Korkia employee reintroduced me. The fit seemed natural, both in terms of the team members’ personalities and the relevance of my experience for Korkia’s ambitious growth plans. The recruitment process was efficient; Korkia is set up to make decisions quickly, which made the move smooth and well-managed.”

Ville: “I first heard about Korkia through my professional network. What struck me in the recruitment process was the combination of strategic clarity, entrepreneurial pace, and the international scope. Conversations were open, focused on real business outcomes, and showed a strong balance between legal rigor, commercial thinking, and execution.”

What were your first impressions when you started at Korkia?

Sanna-Maaria Savikko, Director, Institutional Clients: “The team is made of highly skilled professionals from various backgrounds, all sharing the same ambition: to leave their handprint in building a renewable energy success story. In its field, Korkia is one of the fastest-growing companies in Europe and it shows – in a positive way.”

Peter: “Once I got to know the team and the portfolio in more depth, it was clear there’s huge potential. The team had built great foundations from which to grow, and there are multiple paths forward. What struck me most was how people – their opinions, enjoyment, and wellbeing – are truly valued.”

Maija: “Korkia’s pace is fast but focused. Everyone is hands-on and eager to make things happen. What makes it especially energizing is the balance between freedom and responsibility, you’re trusted to own your work but never left without support.”

What has been the most exciting project or task you’ve worked on so far?

Alvar Tapio, Portfolio Analyst: “Developing a new scenario analysis tool has been the highlight so far. It allows us to run and compare multiple scenarios, helping us better understand risks and opportunities. Building something both technical and impactful – and knowing it supports key decisions – has been incredibly rewarding.”

Ville: “Working on cross-border development and exit processes has been a real highlight. These projects combine governance, permitting, land, grid, and commercial terms across different jurisdictions. Contributing legal structure and risk management in an international context, helping projects move towards ready-to-build phase and exit readiness, has been both challenging and fulfilling.”

How would you describe Korkia’s company culture in just a few words?

Peter: “Ambitious, caring, and collaborative.”

Ville: “Collaborative and solution oriented. People share context openly, step in when timelines are tight, and stay focused on achieving results together. That teamwork extends across all markets.”

Maija: “Authentic, ambitious, and human.”
