Korkia completes sale of two fully permitted solar PV projects in Northern Italy

The sale includes the 4 MW Pradamano and the 2.5 MW San Giovanni al Natisone solar PV projects, both located in the Friuli-Venezia Giulia region.

Korkia’s development company Biko Renewable Energy, a joint venture between Korkia and BIWO Rinnovabile, has completed the sale of two fully permitted solar photovoltaic projects in Italy.

The sale includes the 4 MW Pradamano and the 2.5 MW San Giovanni al Natisone solar PV projects, both located in the Friuli-Venezia Giulia region. The assets are fully permitted and ready-to-build, reflecting Korkia’s focus on developing high-quality renewable energy projects. When completed, the facilities are expected to generate approximately 9,500 MWh of renewable electricity annually. Biko Renewable Energy’s development strategy in Northern Italy focuses on solar PV projects below 10 MW in capacity, which can be developed and permitted more efficiently.

With one of the largest independent European development pipelines, comprising over 150 projects across eight countries and approximately 14 GW of renewable energy and energy storage projects in mid or late-stage development, Korkia is a global investor and developer of utility-scale solar PV, battery energy storage systems (BESS) and onshore wind projects.

“These exits highlight both the strength of our local development platform and the continued demand for well-structured, ready-to-build renewable energy assets,” said Pauli Mäenpää, Group CEO of Korkia. “Korkia’s transition to a pure-play renewable energy investor and developer in 2024 marked the start of a new growth phase for the company. Our rapid expansion into new markets has driven a fast-growing pipeline. As the first wave of projects reaches the final phases of development, we are accelerating both execution and value creation.”

Building a strong renewable energy platform in Italy

Korkia’s Italian development pipeline totals approximately 800 MW, of which around 700 MW has already entered mid- or late-phase development, and 43 MW have reached ready-to-build. Korkia entered the Italian market in 2023 and has since established a strong local development platform through partnerships with experienced developers.

“We have locally built an Italian portfolio in a relatively short time, and these exits represent an important first step for our Italian business, followed by further updates in due course,” said Andrea Fradagrada, Vice President and Country Manager for Italy at Korkia. “We see strong fundamentals for both solar and energy storage in Italy, and our focus remains on advancing a diversified pipeline of high-quality projects that support the country’s ambitious renewable energy targets and energy transition.”
