Korkia strengthens its Origination team by appointing Neil Russell as Investment Manager. Neil has vast experience working on several renewable energy project developments focusing on battery energy storage and solar power systems.

Prior to Korkia, Neil worked as Project Development Manager at Arenko Group, leading the development of standalone BESS projects, and before that as Junior Project Developer at AGR developing collocated solar and BESS projects.

Neil holds a Master of Mechanical Engineering degree from the University of Manchester. Neil’s interest in the energy sector sparked during his student days, leading him to write his thesis about the uptake of energy storage for domestic users and integrating renewable energy on a community scale.

Learn more about Neil in a Q&A:

Q1: What goals and expectations do you have regarding your new job as Investment Manager?

My goal is to make a meaningful contribution to Korkia’s prospects. Currently, Korkia is primarily focused on solar and wind projects, but we are also already looking ahead to the future of renewables. I look forward to working with different industries and entrepreneurial individuals, connecting and structuring deals with developers who are contributing to net zero in innovative ways.

At Korkia, I want to help shape the development of the next wave of energy transition and I’m excited to see what the future holds.

Q2: What in particular made you want to join Korkia?

As I got to know Korkia, I was impressed by the company’s growth and what they’ve been able to build.

I like development because it’s always seemed to me that it’s one of the closest ways you can get as an individual contributor to the value chain of the energy transition and have an impactful role. Working at Korkia reinforces this, as I’m able to contribute in a meaningful way to different projects. Korkia’s mission to build a platform for funding a wide range of renewable developments globally makes it well-positioned to continue its success and lead the way by choosing what kind of projects to develop.

Q3: What energizes you in your free time?

In my spare time, you’ll likely find me training for triathlons, golfing or swing dancing. It’s fun to see that some of my colleagues at Korkia are also interested in triathlons, and I suspect we might soon have our own triathlon team in the London office. I’m looking forward to visiting Helsinki in the winter, taking my triathlon swimming abilities to the next level and try my hand at ice swimming!
