Two solar power plant projects developed by Korkia in collaboration with its Greek development partner GH Energy, reached a significant development milestone in spring 2025. Following extensive assessments and studies on the projects’ environmental impact, both projects successfully received Environmental Terms Approval (ETA) from the regional state authorities. This is a critical step in the development process that brings Korkia’s Greek portfolio closer to maturity and paves the way for connecting these projects to the grid.

Korkia’s maturing renewable energy portfolio in Greece

In February 2025, Environmental Terms Approval was granted for the Rigaio project, a 36.4 MW solar power plant located in the Larissa region of central Greece. The project is being developed alongside a 190 MW standalone battery energy storage system (BESS), enabling flexible power management and enhanced grid support.

In April 2025, Korkia’s Thessaly portfolio took another major step forward with the approval of Environmental Terms for the Elia project. Located in the same region, Elia comprises an 87 MW solar PV installation and a 90 MW standalone BESS asset. Benefiting from convenient access via the existing road network, the site is well-positioned for the next phases of development.

These projects are part of Korkia’s portfolio in the Thessaly region of Greece, which consists of a total of 420 MW of solar PV and BESS. With permitting & licensing steps ongoing for the rest of the portfolio, Korkia moves closer to delivering high-quality renewable energy assets to the Greek market.

From development to delivery: Advancing renewable energy in Greece

Greece remains a particularly dynamic market, with strong policy support and ambitious renewable energy targets. Situated between Southern and Eastern Europe, the country aims to double its installed solar PV capacity to 14 GW by 2030, and is positioning itself as a strategic regional hub of clean energy.

These recent achievements Thessaly mark a key milestone for Korkia in 2025, as the company continues to expand and mature its renewable energy portfolio across Europe. Today, Korkia is one of Europe’s largest and fastest-growing companies in the field of renewable energy, managing a portfolio of over 145 solar, wind and battery energy projects across eight countries.
