Korkia and Evolution Power secure development consent for 150 MWp + 100 MW Stonestreet Green Solar and BESS project

Once operational, the Stonestreet Green Solar project will generate enough renewable energy to power over 42,000 UK homes annually.

The UK Department for Energy Security and Net Zero has granted development consent for Stonestreet Green Solar, a c. 150 MWp solar and 99.9 MW BESS project located near Ashford in Kent. The approval marks a significant milestone for Korkia and its development partner, Evolution Power.

Once operational, the Stonestreet Green Solar project will generate enough renewable energy to power over 42,000 UK homes annually. The site, covering 192 hectares (474 acres) north of Aldington, was selected for its high solar irradiance levels and access to a nearby grid connection point, ensuring efficient integration into the national grid.

As a solar project with a capacity greater than 50 MW, Stonestreet Green Solar has been designated a Nationally Significant Infrastructure Project (NSIP), which entails a more comprehensive planning process. The UK government, rather than the local council, was therefore responsible for permitting the development. The decision is subject to a six-week judicial review period before becoming legally final.

It has been a pleasure working with the Evolution Power team on the Stonestreet Green project, and we are delighted to have reached this significant milestone. In addition to delivering an attractive project that contributes to the UK’s Net Zero targets, this process also highlights the company’s capability to consent larger NSIP schemes — a critical step in realising other major projects within Evolution Power’s development pipeline, said Peter Bolton, Vice President, Portfolio Investments and Country Manager for UK at Korkia.

Advancing the UK’s Renewable Energy Transition

In addition to Stonestreet Green Solar, Korkia and Evolution Power are advancing three projects through the Nationally Significant Infrastructure Project (NSIP) process. Together, these projects represent over 2.5GW of solar generation capacity with additional co-located BESS. Stonestreet Green Solar is the first of these projects to receive development consent.

This milestone follows the August 2025 announcement of planning permission for Wandon End Solar, a 49.9 MWp solar and BESS project in North Hertfordshire, another key achievement within Korkia and Evolution Power’s expanding UK portfolio.

Korkia’s project portfolio advancing globally

With a broad portfolio spanning more than 150 projects in nine countries, Korkia is a global investor and developer accelerating the transition to renewable energy. As of August 2025, around 9.4 GW of Korkia’s overall 22 GW-plus project pipeline are in late-phase development.

In addition to the Stonestreet Green Solar development consent and Wandon End Solar planning permission, the following projects developed by Korkia and local development partners have recently advanced to ready-to-build phase:
