CEO Pauli Mäenpää and Chairman of the Board Timo Leino visited Chile at the beginning of January. Together with Rodrigo Ackermann, Korkia’s VP in Latin America, they talked with local business media about the new investment in a solar and battery project development company.

Korkia is starting its second project in Chile with Solar Ray, a company developing solar and battery projects. It is a substantial investment, and upon completion, the power plants are expected to generate around 1000 MW of energy.

In an interview with El Mercurio, Korkia’s CEO Pauli Mäenpää emphasized that the company has transitioned completely to renewable energy business over the past year: “Our mission is to produce clean megawatts. Chile was originally our first market where we built the first PMGD solar power plant portfolio. This has guided our later activities in other countries such as Canada, England, Greece, and Italy.”

The Solar Ray project will be implemented in collaboration with local project development entrepreneurs in the Valparaíso region of Chile over the next three years.

Rodrigo Ackermann, Korkia’s VP Latin America, stated in the interview that despite challenges in Chile, including energy transmission and battery installation costs, he remains optimistic about the operating environment and believes that prices will also decrease.

“We are a long-term player. Our business includes project development in Chile, as well as in other parts of the world,” Ackermann said in the interview.
