Niina Karhunen appointed as Head of Accounting & Tax 

Korkia is delighted to announce the appointment of Niina Karhunen as the Group’s new Head of Accounting & Tax, further strengthening the company’s financial leadership. Niina is a valued addition to the team as Korkia continues to scale its renewable energy portfolio across eight markets.

Having joined the team in January, Niina brings extensive experience in financial management from the real estate asset management and retail sectors. She is responsible for ensuring strong financial governance, high-quality reporting, and sound tax practices across the Group, its alternative investment funds, and its 14 project development companies.

Q: What in particular made you choose Korkia?

I’m a problem solver by nature and enjoy challenging myself. The opportunity to take a deep dive into the world of renewable energy is deeply motivating, as accelerating the energy transition brings a strong sense of purpose and real societal impact.

I’m also inspired by the ambition and drive of my new colleagues. From the outset, it’s clear that we have big goals and a systematic way of working towards them — bringing new industrial-scale power plants to the market one by one. Any challenges we face along the way are solvable.

Q: What kind of energy do you bring to the team and the work community?

I’m very much a people person and genuinely enjoy bringing colleagues together. We’ve already scheduled a Valentine’s Day Breakfast Bingo — or Friend’s Day, as we call it in Finland — and I have a never-ending list of ideas lined up.

I love coming up with initiatives that create positive energy at work. Even though work isn’t always fun, it’s important to keep a spark and good vibes around you. That’s what helps teams overcome challenges, whether they’re work-related or personal.

Q: What energizes you in your free time?

Outside of work, I enjoy acting and improv theatre, fitness boxing, and basketball. Despite being 1.57 metres tall, I fully believe I have the spirit — if not the height — of a professional player.

My many hobbies and curious nature, combined with time spent with friends and loved ones, help me maintain a healthy work–life balance, which I see as essential for sustainable high performance.
