Korkia’s Mellizas and Beltrán projects reach key development milestones in Chile

Korkia’s renewable energy portfolio in Chile has achieved key milestones with environmental approval for Mellizas and Ready-to-Build status for Beltrán.

The utility-scale Mellizas hybrid project, developed in partnership with Korkia’s Chilean development partner Ciudad Luz, has received environmental approval. The approval marks an important step for the project and enables progression toward the next phases of development.

The Mellizas project includes a 218 MW solar power plant with a co-located 800 MWh battery energy storage (BESS) system. The project will cover approximately 300 hectares, making it one of the largest solar PV developments in Pemuco in the Ñuble region.

The Beltrán BESS project, developed by Korkia in partnership with Solar Ray, has reached Ready-to-Build (RTB) status. The Beltrán project includes a 750 MWh standalone BESS located in the Valparaíso region. The project site is located close to the La Pólvora substation.

Strengthening Korkia’s Chilean portfolio

Together, these milestones demonstrate continued progress across Korkia’s Chilean portfolio, which combines solar PV and battery storage projects located close to key demand centres.

As renewable energy deployment continues to grow in Chile, battery storage is playing an increasingly important role in supporting grid flexibility and reducing renewable energy curtailment. As a result, Chile is rapidly scaling up battery storage.

Recent progress across Korkia’s global portfolio

These milestones build on Korkia’s active project development and transaction track record. During 2026, Korkia completed the sale of one of Finland’s largest battery energy storage projects and exited two portfolios of solar PV assets in Northern Italy.

Recent milestones also include an environmental permit for one of Scandinavia’s largest solar and BESS projects in Sweden, Ready-to-Build status for the Stonestreet Green project in the UK, grid connection progress in Romania, authorisation for a sectioning substation in Chile, and project approvals in Canada.

Korkia’s renewable energy portfolio currently comprises 15 GW of mature and 9 GW of early-stage utility-scale solar, wind, and energy storage (BESS) development assets in Europe, North America and South America.
